Caledon trailway

If you’re looking for an easy, accessible walk that still feels scenic, the Caledon Trailway is a great option—especially if you start in Terra Cotta.

Stretching about 35 km from Terra Cotta to Highway 9, the trail offers plenty of flexibility depending on how far you want to go. I started right at “mile zero” and walked just the first few kilometres, which was more than enough for a relaxed outing. The path is flat, wide, and easy to follow—ideal for walking, biking, or a casual stroll.

Even on a beautiful spring weekend, it wasn’t overly busy, which made it feel calm without being isolated. We grabbed a coffee from Terra Cotta Country Store before starting, which made for a perfect, low-key start to the walk.

At mile zero, you have options. Heading east keeps you on the Trailway, while heading west connects you to trails within Terra Cotta Conservation Area, part of Credit Valley Conservation. Just note that those trails require a valid permit and are part of the Bruce Trail side trail system.

As you continue along the Trailway, it does cross roads at various points, but traffic was minimal during our visit. Each crossing is clearly marked with signage so you always know where you are along the route.

One thing to keep in mind: there are very limited garbage bins—we only saw one—so if you bring coffee or snacks, be prepared to carry your waste with you. The trail itself was very clean, and it’s clear that visitors are doing their part to keep it that way.

Parking is available but somewhat limited in this area. You can find spots at mile zero, along Brick Lane, and on Winston Churchill Boulevard.

It’s not a challenging hike, but that’s exactly the point. It’s easy, well-maintained, and a great way to get outside without overthinking it.
